PURPOSE: Reporting to the Specific Claims Researcher, the Archaeological Field Assistant will participate in assigned project activities, to protect and provide stewardship over Cowichan Tribes cultural heritage resources and traditional use values. This is a 1.0 FTE Full Time Term position ending on or about April 2025 that works in the office and requires extensive local travel in the field.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: The position includes paid training, paid vacation and paid sick leave. Depending on experience, the position starts at $31.52 – $33.45 per hour ($57, 357.52- $60, 871.31 annually).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participate and assist in archaeological field work under the supervision of the Field Archaeologist, at the direction of the Specific Claims Researcher
• Report finds, human remains or any situation of concern to the Specific Claims Researcher
• Monitor construction work or any permitted ground disturbance for indications of archaeological materials present as assigned
• Must be able to work with and effectively communicate with a variety of external partners
• Must ensure that all Cowichan Tribes cultural heritage is treated with the utmost care in keeping with traditions and teachings
• Participate in regular staff meetings
• Maintain accountable record keeping which include but not limited to daily activities, meetings and email correspondence
• Generate monthly reports and work plans as directed
• Participate in committee meetings as needed to give updates and receive instructions as needed
• Assist in general office duties such as filing, report writing, digitizing documents as required
• Participate in job related training as required
• Other related duties as required
